One common denominator between the most Clutch athletes in history and today – overall positivity and an undying belief in themselves and those around them! Think of Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Stephen Curry or Jaylen Brown. How about Koby Bryant, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady or Joe Montana. Do you ever remember any of these players hang their head or even remotely appear to lose faith in themselves?
Staying positive doesn’t mean there is never frustration. Sometimes the most clutch players will get frustrated with themselves or even their teammates. The key is to not let it last! The times of frustration have to be fleeting, quickly replaced with belief and overall positivity.
This is the Ball to Life key to creating an undying belief in yourself! Staying positive and always bringing a positive energy!
Positivity to Create your Undying Belief
On a daily basis we are all faced with frustrating circumstances. Allowing frustrating circumstances to direct our mood and behavior creates negativity and chaos. To control the chaos, we must control our own reactions and/or emotions to the circumstances. Allowing negative emotions to direct our behavior typically only leads to more frustration.
Frustration or negativity sucks our energy and kills your undying belief. Instead, we must push ourselves to keep our mindset positive. The positivity instills energy, improves focus and puts your mind in the right space to make a play when it counts, to be Clutch!
Practice Positivity Daily
Staying positive and always bringing a positive energy sounds simple, but I’m afraid its not. It takes practice on a daily basis. If you allow yourself to respond to situations negatively outside the field of play, you will also respond negatively on the field of play. Practice how you play. You cant just turn it on and off when you want.
When dealing with teachers, parents, friends or other situations, practice staying positive. Practice controlling your own emotions through all situations. Remember, you may fail from time to time and that’s fine. It’s how you respond that matters. You are working to create your undying belief so when you find yourself becoming negative, redirect to positivity.
Undying Belief in Adversity
True adversity is when our true colors shine. Are you able to maintain your composure, keep your emotions under control and respond in a positive manner? This is the goal! Becoming a master or our own emotions through all situations. True adversity will likely cause the most controlled individuals to lose control to some degree. Practicing these skills in everyday situations is what provides the foundation to allow an individual to regain control when it matters most.
Tips to Control Your Emotions
- Focus on the facts of a situation, not conjecture or opinion
- Control what you can control! Everything else is just noise.
- Stay within yourself, don’t try to do more than you can do
Creating that undying belief and becoming a clutch athlete doesn’t happen overnight. What it takes to be a Clutch Athlete is not easy. It takes time and it takes effort. There is skill involved and many may say there is luck involved. I believe that we make our own luck by putting in the work and letting our effort and attitude create opportunities for positive results. We create our own luck and we control our own future. Our attitude and reaction to situations will dictate our results. Be a source of energy and positivity and you will start seeing more things break your way, you will start to become Mr. Clutch!
