We need to end the Caitlin Clark NBA narrative once and for all. After Clark’s 41 point, 12 assist, 7 rebound performance against LSU, the narrative was predictably going to resurface again. For the sake of Caitlin Clark and for the sake of every little girl that idolizes her and what she has accomplished, the narrative should stop. Caitlin Clark deserves better than that! All women athletes today and in the future deserve better!
Why do we compare great women athletes to male athletes?
Why or how do these comparison’s get started? I’ll give the benefit of the doubt to some of the folks that have made these statements that perhaps they truly believe that Caitlin can compete in the NBA. I hope that this statement is true because otherwise, the only logic that I can come up with for the comparison is to discredit her and her accomplishments. If this is the case, it should stop! Not only in regards to Caitlin Clark but for all great women athletes.
Let’s celebrate them as women who are GREAT ATHLETES! No other comparisons are necessary or needed. The pressure that is on our top women athletes goes well beyond the court. In fact, I believe they carry a heavier burden than their male counterparts.
What separates our men and women athletes?
Guys playing basketball or sports in general is completely normal in society. Accomplishing greatness as a male athlete is readily celebrated and has been for a long time. There have always been great women athletes but they’re not celebrated the same way. That is changing! Caitlin Clark has been at the center of this shift. She has handled it with grace and charm throughout. She’s not perfect and we shouldn’t expect her to be. The same goes for all other women athletes.
At the same time, women athletes should hold themselves to a higher standard. They do have an entire generation of little girls watching everything they do. As society, let’s make sure that we demonstrate to these little girls that these women can also be shown some grace. They need to know they don’t have to be perfect as they strive to reach their goals!
Age of Great Women Basketball Players
The NCAA women’s basketball tournament has been a showcase for a multitude of women that are great athletes. If you have not caught a women’s tournament game, you are missing out. It’s worth the watch for sure! The women’s game today is as good as I can ever remember. The talent is deep, the games are great and these ladies play their hearts out! It’s all-around great basketball!
Caitlin Clark may be the face of the game today but she’s not the only great player. Paige Bueckers (UCONN), Angel Reese (LSU), JuJu Watkins (USC) and Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame) are just a few of the greats in the women’s game today. They’re all worth celebrating as women who are great athletes! They’re worth celebrating because of those who look up to them. The little girls that not only want to be like Caitlin Clark, but also want to better than Caitlin Clark!
